about caren

For as long as I can remember, art has been part of my life. I grew up watching my mother paint and accompanying her to exhibitions, gallery openings, and art shows. Although I never initially planned to pursue a career as a painter, I studied photography and business before eventually finding my way back to art.

Twenty-five years ago, after experiencing burnout in my career, I picked up a
paintbrush—and discovered a new direction. What began as a personal creative pursuit evolved into a lifelong commitment to painting and exploring the relationship between light, movement, texture, and perception.

My current work is created to be experienced, not simply observed. I use metallic and iridescent paints on sculpted canvases to create surfaces that interact with light and shadow. As the viewer moves around the work, colors, reflections, and forms shift, creating an ever-changing visual experience.
There is a sense of discovery at the heart of my sculpted paintings. What captures your eye in one moment may disappear in the next, encouraging you to pause, look again, and find something new. The dimensional surface can create an almost physical response—the desire to reach out and touch it. This interaction between the artwork, the viewer, and the changing light is central to my practice.

My work has been exhibited in numerous juried fine art exhibitions throughout Florida, as well as in galleries in Florida and New York. My paintings have been featured in books, magazines, online exhibitions, and curated artist publications. Recognition for my work includes multiple Top 60 Masters of Contemporary Art Awards, an Artist of the Future Award, and awards and finalist distinctions in juried exhibitions.

My work continues to explore the possibilities of sculpted canvas and the way light can transform a painting, inviting each viewer to experience something different each time they look.
